Totally Spies Live-Action Series in the Works at Amazon

Amazon MGM Studios is officially developing a Totally Spies live-action series based on Banijay Kids’ classic animated series from the early 2000s.

The project will be executive produced by Emmy winner Will Ferrell through his Gloria Sanchez Productions banner. This comes after more than two decades since the French animated spy comedy made its debut. After its original run ended in 2008, Totally Spies was revived twice, with the first spanning from 2013-2015. The most recent revival came in the form of Season 7, which just premiered on May 12, 2024, and is currently airing on Gulli in France. It is expected to make its international debut on Cartoon Network and Discovery Kids at a later date.

What is Totally Spies live-action series about?

The live-action series will follow iconic best friends Clover, Alex and Sam as they navigate saving the world as international spies while trying to survive the ups and downs of first year college life,” reads the logline.

Based on the original animated series created by Vincent Chalvon-Demersay and David Michel, the Totally Spies live-action series is executive produced by Jessica Elbaum and Alix Taylor for Gloria Sanchez Productions alongside Benoît Di Sabatino for Banijay Kids & Family. It is co-production between Amazon MGM Studios and Banijay Kids & Family. At the moment, the project currently has no writer or cast members committed to it yet.

“Will, Alix and I are thrilled to be joining our partners at Amazon and Banijay to bring ‘Totally Spies!’ to life as a live-action show,” Elbaum said in a statement (via Variety). “Gloria Sanchez was originally founded to tell stories about complicated characters and empower female voices and storytellers. As longtime fans of the animated show, we couldn’t think of a story more fitting to our ethos. The themes of girl-power, never sacrificing friendship, fun, or your true self to be successful resonated with us then, and feel ripe to revisit now.”
